Jersey Shore has become a surprise hit for MTV, and the participants have become minor celebrities. The show uses the same formula as MTV's long-running reality series The Real World in which a group of strangers live together for several months to see what happens. What separates Jersey Shore from The Real World is that it makes no pretense of being anything other than what it is: A show about young people drinking, fighting, partying and hooking up. Of late, The Real World has gotten too political for its own good. Now there always seems to be a hidden agenda that MTV is trying to advance through the series, and the formula has gotten pretty stale. So in light of this, Jersey Shore is a breath of fresh air. It is indeed a guilty pleasure for those who want some mindless entertainment without feeling that an agenda is being forced down their throats.

Partying, Drinking, Fighting And Hooking Up

The cast of Jersey Shore share a house in Seaside Heights, New Jersey for the entire summer and all get jobs at a T-shirt shop on the boardwalk. However, you rarely see them working there. They're usually out partying. During the season, which just recently ended, there have been several fist fights, a number of one-night stands, extreme drunken behaviour and much arguing between the housemates.

The Situation

Probably the person who caught the most heat from the housemates was Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino, the self-anointed “man of the house” and resident Lothario. His main goal was to bed as many girls as possible during his stay in Seaside Heights. The housemates called trying to pick up girls "creepin," and The Situation spent most of his time out creepin’. He brought numerous girls home for hookups and was not very discriminating about who he hooked up with. If they looked halfway decent and were willing, they were good to go. Mike's blustery personality rubbed many of his housemates the wrong way and was even punched in the face by one of the female cast members.
